Joining us as a Graduate Drainage Development Control Engineer, you will scrutinise projects that could affect highway drainage. Working across programmes such as developer-funded and traffic safety schemes, you will support the technical approvals process of drainage designs and construction. Working collaboratively with a wide range of partners such as Highways England and external developers, you will provide advice on the technical aspects of drainage designs throughout every aspect of a project. From initial planning through to the construction and post-construction phases of highway infrastructure initiatives, you will see to it that we are complying with all relevant standards. You will also provide technical advice on proposals received from landowners who wish to relocate existing highway drainage assets.

With the scope to work on both new and amended infrastructure projects, this is a great opportunity to further your knowledge within an experienced team. Every day will present you with new challenges, as you will be working closely with a wide range of stakeholders including developers, residents and legal and financial departments. From making recommendations on stopping up processes and the relocation of existing assets, through to supporting team leaders in securing external funding, this is a unique opportunity to put your career on an exceptional path.

About You

You will have a degree (2:1 or equivalent) in Geology, Geography, Environmental or a related subject with a good knowledge of drainage design in highway settings. This will include an understanding of all relevant guidelines, plus a comprehensive knowledge of national and local design standards and planning guidance. With an understanding of the responsibilities of the Highway Authority, you will have a working knowledge of construction, design and management regulations.  As you will be representing the County Council when attending site visits and meetings, we will expect you to enjoy working in partnership with a wide range of people and organisations.
