We’re the charity who look after and bring to life 2,000 miles of canals and rivers. Our waterways contribute to the health and wellbeing of local communities and economies, creating attractive and connected places to live, work, volunteer and spend leisure time. These historic, natural and cultural assets form part of the strategic and local green-blue infrastructure network, linking urban and rural communities as well as habitats.
Our waterways are on the doorstep of 8 million people and reach some of the most deprived communities within the UK. By caring for our waterways and promoting their use, we believe we can improve the wellbeing of our nation. We want you to come and be part of it.
We are looking for an exceptional person to join us as Director for the East Midlands Region. This is an area of river navigations and canals, which includes the urban centres of Leicester, Nottingham, Newark, Lincoln and Northampton.
As Director, you will be responsible for around 100 colleagues and over 500 regular volunteers to deliver the strategic vision of the region and the Trust by transforming our canals and rivers into spaces that bring wellbeing benefits to local people, and visitors every day. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, your role is responsible for the successful running of the regional team to deliver excellence on behalf of our customers, visitors, partners and people.
The successful applicant will be confident in their ability to engage and inspire large and diverse teams, including volunteers and local community groups and will have the impact and influence to manage relationships with regional and local politicians and officials, business and community leaders and other key stakeholders.
You have the opportunity to deliver the Trust’s plans and objectives whilst working within the strategic framework of the Trust’s vision. You will engage with a broad team of waterway, technical, property and other in-house professionals.
Ideally, you will demonstrate experience of delivering excellence in operational performance, customer service, community engagement, as well as commercial and financial acumen.
This is an exciting opportunity for a talented individual who is passionate about the potential for our charity to improve people’s lives in their region and its communities. We anticipate that successful candidate will have a variety of previous senior experience.
At the Trust we care passionately for our waterways, and as importantly, for those who look after and use them. We strongly believe that a diverse workforce brings with it a diversity of ideas, thinking and ways of working which enhances what we do as a Trust. We are striving to represent the diverse communities that we are a part of and welcome applicants from across all sectors of the community.
When you join the Canal & River Trust you become a member of an engaged team working to conserve and improve our waterway environment and heritage for future generations. Come and share your passion and knowledge with a team that makes a difference to millions of people every day
