The Charity Commission is an independent, non ministerial government department, with around 420 staff based across four locations in England and Wales. We register and regulate charities and are driven by our core purpose to ensure that they thrive and inspire trust, so that the public can support charities with confidence and make a meaningful contribution to improving lives and strengthening society.

The Commission has just launched its new five-year strategy which sets out a bold and ambitious vision, centered around its commitment to represent the public interest and taking a more responsive and collaborative approach to regulation. We are now seeking to appoint an exceptional director to play a critical role in leading the continued transformation of the operational business.

Reporting to the Chief Executive and as Head of the Liverpool office, the Director of Operations will be the most senior member of the leadership team here, with responsibility for 160 staff and an annual spend of £5 million. Striving for excellence, the Director of Operations will act as a catalyst for improvement and he or she will focus on improving our services, increasing efficiency and performance and on improving our customer experience.

This role requires an individual with an outstanding track record of experience in operational delivery as well as the drive and insight to help the Charity Commission further evolve and improve as an organisation. You will understand what it takes to work in a complex, fast paced and challenging environment. With the ability to lead, inspire and motivate high-performing teams, you will promote and inspire cultural change and work with a range of partners and individuals to drive excellent outcomes and a strong customer service ethos. Above all, as a key member of the leadership team, you will be committed to delivering our vision in line with our five strategic objectives.
