The role:

We have an exciting opening for an experienced Software Engineer to join our Aerodynamics Department.

Reporting to one of our Principal Engineers, you will help create the next generation of workflow infrastructure developing and enhancing the frontend and backend software tools that support the processes we use to develop the aerodynamics of the car.

It’s an exciting time to join the software team in our Aerodynamics Department as we revolutionise or working practices and take the next steps in our journey to a DevOps culture. Working in consultation with key stakeholders, you will play an important role on stimulating new projects, developing our tools from concept to deployment, and shaping our future workflows. By making a tangible impact on the tools used across our Department, you will improve the performance of the Team both on the track and off it.

Your responsibilities will include:

Developing backend and frontend solutions to improve workflows and data visualisation

Building our functionality of the future

Enhancing existing systems, ensuring sustainable solutions

Being a key point of contact for new software requirements and internal stakeholder management

Contributing to software projects across the wider Aerodynamics Department

Streamlining our software engineering projects and processes, ensuring seamless customer experiences and advocating best practices

Helping develop your software team, building a supportive environment and building capabilities to ensure the smooth delivery of major technical projects

Working collaboratively as part of a small team, you will be applying your thoughtful and curious nature to a range of exciting challenges. Consulting with stakeholders and developing understanding, you will create innovative solutions to complex problems. As a valued member of our Aerodynamics Department, your ideas and skills will make a tangible contribution to the Team.

This role is office-based, at our campus in Brackley, United Kingdom.

What we are looking for:

You have an established record working at a senior level in a software team to deliver flexible, scalable and maintainable solutions to complex problems, with experience of the following:

Backend development, ideally within a containerised microservices architecture

Frontend development, ideally in a Javascript framework e.g. React

Writing software using an Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) language. This role will be using Python, but candidates with experience of other languages (eg C++, Go) and keen to develop new skills will be welcomed

Full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)

Agile development practices within a DevOps culture

Managing stakeholder relationships

You have a good level of relevant theoretical knowledge, for example through a degree in Computer Science (or equivalent), or through training and experience in a professional setting.

With an open and honest communication style and broad overview of your subject, you relish collaborating in a team setting and enjoy discussing technical concepts. You are equally comfortable working on your own, applying your reflective nature, interpretive skills, attention to detail and dependable judgment to understand complicated problems then propose and evaluate quality solutions in a timely fashion. Looking to fulfil your potential, you are keen to develop yourself further in a demanding role, excited about constantly learning while fostering the understanding of others.

While the role involves developing software relating to our High Performance Computing (HPC) and Computational Fluids Dynamics (CFD) processes, experience of these is not required, nor is prior interest or involvement in motorsport: we are more focussed on your potential to deliver at the highest level, applying your skills and understanding to practical data problems.
