The Office for Students (OfS) was established by the Higher Education and Research Act 2017 (HERA) and became fully operational in April 2018. The OfS`s primary aim is to ensure that English higher education is delivering positive outcomes for students - past, present, and future. The Resources, Finance & Transformation Directorate provides critical services to the OfS to enable the organisation to deliver its strategy.

The Directorate ensures that the OfS complies with statutory and other public sector requirements, identifies and manages risks and opportunities and co-ordinates efforts across the organisation to be efficient and effective.
The purpose of the role `Head of Knowledge Management and Information Governance` is to lead on knowledge management and information governance, ensuring that this adheres to the high standards expected in the public sector. Key responsibilities include: providing leadership and management to the knowledge management and information governance members of the Governance team; acting as a trusted adviser to the Head of Governance, Head of Legal, Chief Executive and members of the Directors` group; promoting robust knowledge management and information governance throughout the OfS; ensuring that OfS business is conducted in compliance with all relevant information governance legislation and regulation in an efficient and effective way; ensuring that all appropriate knowledge and information policies, procedures and assurances are in place that balance legislative requirements and organisational need; and promoting a privacy culture and understanding of data protection compliance throughout the organisation. The role is required to engage with internal and external stakeholders on knowledge management and information governance matters.

The key person attributes to fulfil this role include:
-an understanding of the role of the OfS; excellent verbal and written communication skills;
-capability to work in complex and ambiguous situations;
-demonstration of leadership and relationship skills among internal and external stakeholders;
-demonstration of a broad-based view of issues, events and activities and a perception of their longer term impact or wider implications;
-knowledge of operating as a regulator;
-and experience of dealing with central government and their governance requirements.

Bristol based with regular travel to London [and other parts of the UK].

The role is full time; however, we will consider job share and part time applicants (minimum 0.8 FTE).
